From the author:

I’m José. Welcome to Culture, Scholar, Remix.

I am a program coordinator, creative placemaker, educator, and researcher. I believe that by breaking down barriers to collaboration, people can learn from each other to create positive change that supports all communities and individuals. I create, cultivate, and advocate for education, cultural and inclusion-based change that deepens intercultural understanding for communities and culture bearers.

A Connecticut native, I have B.S. ED in History with a minor in Psychology from Central Connecticut State University (CCSU). I received my M.A. in American Studies from Penn State. I am also certified to teach Secondary Education Social Studies, grades 7-12, in the state of Connecticut. I split my time working full-time in the nonprofit field as a program coordinator as well as acting as a university lecturer and an independent scholar & consultant.

I am always on the lookout for opportunities to share my work and engage with other scholars, culture workers, and citizen-artists. Currently, I’m most interested in:

  • Creative placemaking and the importance of relevance
  • Intercultural community empowerment through capacity-building, advocacy, community-driven partnerships, & the arts
  • Teaching about issues that affect Latina/o/x individuals and communities of color, particularly Puerto Rico and the Puerto Rican Diaspora

If you have a way you think we could work together, get in touch. You can go directly to the blog if you just want to read. Also, you can check out what I’m currently up to and what I’ve been up to in the past.

Until then, I’ll be exploring, writing, and educating.
